Selecting a Reading Theme

I was inspired by this video to think about coming up with a reading theme or objective for the books that I plan to read this year. The presenter in the video decided to dedicate 2024 to reading French literature and I thought that was a good idea.

I’ve been thinking that I would like to dedicate 2025 to reading books in Spanish or by Spanish speaking authors. I’m bilingual and I started learning how to speak Spanish when I was 12 years old. At one point in my life, I lived abroad and that helped me to learn to speak Spanish fluently. I speak Spanish on a daily basis because I work in the medical profession but I find that I haven’t been reading a lot in Spanish and I want to change that. Even though I want to read more in Spanish, I realize that there are authors that come from Spanish speaking countries but write in English therefore not all the books that I read for this theme would be in Spanish.

The first book I’ve chosen to read is Mrs March by Virginia Feito. Although the author was raised in Madrid and Paris, she writes in English. I’ve started reading the book and so far I’m enjoying it.

Have you thought about selecting a reading theme or objective for 2025? If so, what is your reading theme?
