The Beginning

I decided to start a blog about books that I read. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and I want this blog to serve as a way to remember and reflect on the books that I read.

I read fiction and non-fiction in both English and Spanish. I’m a slow reader so I’m not sure how quickly or how often I will post on this blog.

The two books that I’m going to start reading this week are: Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown and Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata.

I was inspired to read the novel by Sayaka Murata after watching this interview. She talks about her writing, her writing routine, inspiration, etc. I felt a strong connection to her as a person because she seems like a person who doesn’t fit easily into society and that has been my experience as well. Here is a quote from her interview that resonated with me: “I felt that I had to hide who I was, so my parents wouldn’t throw me out…so I tried to play the part of a human being better.”. Her words touched me because so often I feel like I’m playing the part of being a certain type of human, one that is acceptable.

As I read each book, I’ll make blog posts on my thoughts/feelings of each book.
